Missions Overview
This section provides information about the missionaries with whom our church has the joy of partnering, including a brief factsheet concerning the country in which they serve and ministry updates they have written. We hope this resource will allow you to be more informed as you pray and give.
Included on each page is a link to the websites of our missionary families' respective mission agencies. We encourage you to follow these links where you will have a chance to learn about other missionaries carrying out the work of the gospel. You will also find valuable information on ways you can be involved in world missions yourself.
It is our desire that at Columbia Heights missions would be a way of life, not simply a bulletin board with a handful of thumb-tacks and photos scattered across a map. We want to actively support missionaries in prayer, with our finances, and in person, helping where we can. God is able to use each of us, if we are willing.
"Here am I Lord, send me."
Faith Promise Giving
Columbia Heights has adopted the Faith Promise approach to missions giving. From FaithPromiseOffering.org:
The Faith Promise Offering is a method of missionary giving by individuals or families through their local church. A faith promise is made to contribute a certain amount, either weekly or monthly, to the missionary fund of the local church, over and above the usual tithe, building fund, and other offerings. It is based upon faith and is given first, just as the tithe, trusting God for needs. It follows the basic biblical principle of sowing and reaping, sowing always being first. (2 Corinthians 9:6)
On an annual basis, individuals and families at Columbia Heights submit "faith promises" in writing. The sum total of the promised amounts becomes our commitment to missions for the year. Once this is done, the promise cards are destroyed; the church holds no one accountable for the amount they promised. Just as we ask each giver to trust God for the funds they promised, the church as a whole waits on God to provide the amount we have pledged to each missionary.
New missionaries are taken on for support as our the growth of our total faith promise allows.
